This year my creative juices have been flowing, full of new explorations, and new audiences. On the rainiest day of the year, friends and fellow artists helped install my sculpture, “Tangled,” at Salem State University’s North Campus. It’s one of ten sculptures in a special retrospective, “Outdoor Sculpture at Maudslay: 25 Years and Counting.” Videos, Images, and 3D models will be at the Winfisky Gallery through Oct. 3rd, and the sculptures will be outdoors into December. An evening reception will be held on Friday, September 19, from 6-8 pm. For more information please visit salemstate.edu/arts.

On Cape Ann this summer, my sculptural highlight was assisting Rebecca Nagle with her artistic interpretation of a sea urchin for GMGI’s “Stand Up for Science and Art” month of special events. The official unveiling will be held at Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute, 417 Main Street, Gloucester, on Tuesday, September 16, at 5:00pm, followed by a chance to hear about what we learn from sea urchins.

For the Cape Ann Artisans Fall Studio Tour, there’ll be paintings, of course, as well as a new medium – ink! I was excited to study in August with the inspiring Talya Baharal whose work in ink, collage, and paint is masterful. The workshop was sponsored by Rocky Neck Art Colony and held at Montserrat. Below is my work space and my bravely shared, very first efforts.
