From the Studio: Cindy Efinger

For the past year I was working in a rented basement studio space.  For many reasons we decided to build a new studio in our backyard, which was completed on Mother’s Day.  I was working on a new project that same day.  I love my new space and, more importantly, how I feel inspired to try new things.

I am reminded that newness is an artist’s muse.  To repeat old work is a creative drain.    New materials, techniques, styles, perspectives all come with risk, but force us to explore, solving new problems, or not.  Sometimes we fail, but then, in a new situation it is easier to accept failure as part of growth.  Newness both inspires and forgives.

I am now exploring new substrates and shapes. New creativity arrives with a fresh breeze. The risk of failure seems far away when trying something new- exploring mode is devoid of the need to have immediate success.  There is a lesson here – but I am too happy to work it all out – I just can’t wait to keep the journey moving forward.
