Cape Ann’s coastal landscape and spectacular light has long captivated artists. What a pleasure it is to live and paint here.
The surrounding coastal waterways lend themselves to serene compositional arrangements. They delight the eye with beautiful color combinations. Seasonal variations give an artist endless opportunities to design, and myriad palettes to explore.
When snow blankets the winter landscape it serves to simplify, patterning into light and dark shapes. Colors are neutralized and small details become obscured in a gradation of tones, restrained by the wintry atmosphere.
I find winter’s visual nuance enchanting. It is a delight to paint scenes that whisper stillness at this time of year.
