From the Studio: Pam Stratton

The Artisans Comeback Tour is around the corner and I have a visiting artist, Dagmar Friedrich, from Spilimbergo, Italy coming to my studio to teach a 4 day class right after the tour. It is a busy time.

This is what I have been up to on our sabbatical…

Stirring the dirty pot

I have been having fun in the dirty pot. This is the name for the non-chemical process I use to create my eco prints on paper for mosaic, sculptures and on my silk scarves. I use only rusty metal and vinegar in an aluminum pot to get the tannins in vegetation to transfer onto the paper and fabric. I roll up bundles with the fabric and leaves then I boil it for 2.5 hours or sometimes I steam them. The pot water is very dark, hence the name the dirty pot!

They come out of the pot looking like this.

They get washed and become mosaics, scarves and sculptures!

I look forward to seeing you this year during the tour or by appointment.
