At the end of 2012 I moved to Rockport and opened a working studio called Pen & Brush. It’s open by chance and appointment, on many spring and summer afternoons, and during the Christmas Season. You’ll discover it at the end of a brick alleyway in Dock Square right next to Molly’s Ice Cream.
In my new space you’ll find work in progress and examples of all my visual art, including figure studies and portraits, as well as signed copies of my award-winning children’s books.
I am best known outside the art world as the author of books for children and novels for young readers and adults, as well as for being an illustrator of picture books. Look for me at the Newburyport Literary Festival on April 25th and 26th.
When I lived near Wingaersheek Beach, I became fascinated with the rock formations along the beach and began to explore their beauty and power in my home studio in both pastel and oil paint. A number of these landscapes have won awards in juried shows and were exhibited with my children’s books in a solo show called BOOKS AND BOULDERS at The Sawyer Free Library in Gloucester in the fall of 2011. In September of 2013, the rock paintings were again featured in an exhibit called AGGREGATE at Flatrocks Gallery in Lanesville, MA. Check out Past Exhibitions at www.flatrocksgallery.com
For my first Cape Ann Artisan Tour in 2014, there will be a number of small and medium sized pieces, including originals of a few picture book illustrations, earlier bodies of work, figure studies in various sizes, and of course, my large imposing Rockscapes.
Here is the Trailer for my newest picture book, “The Deer Watch”:
