The Cape Ann Artisans Studio Spring Tour: June 20-21
Ranked 20th among all New England’s top 120 Fairs, Festivals & Events by Yankee Magazine!
The Cape Ann Artisans are ready to greet visitors again in 2015! In April, the tour members emerged from their studios to walk in Gloucester’s Pride Stride with bright magenta umbrellas to celebrate the arrival of spring and spread some good in the community raising nearly $3000 for Cape Ann Food Pantry and Cape Ann Animal Aid. Just this week, the Artisans were recognized by Yankee Magazine in its summer guide as 20th among the top 120 Fairs, Festivals, and Events for 2015! To add to the excitement, the CAA is also participating in the New England Weekend Travel Giveaway. Enter by May 29th via MassVacation.com.
With all this creativity in Cape Ann’s “backyard” the Artisans hope that both neighbors and visitors will come out to see what they have been working on since the last tour. A great way to enjoy the tour is to think about questions you would like to ask the Artisans. This year, the Artisans are focusing on “textures of the tour” as a theme. As you peruse the Artisans work, think about your favorite texture and ask the artisans about the textures they create or try to achieve and those uniquely experienced living on Cape Ann.
“We loved the four studios we visited and just happened on this driving up to Halibut Point and seeing all the pink signs. We were surprised how good the work was and each bought a piece of jewelry. We also loved the settings each studio was in and at times were just elated by what a beautiful area it was when you got off the beaten path.”
…a 2014 visitor on the tour
The Spring Tour is Saturday and Sunday, June 20 & 21, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day. This self-guided journey along the scenic coastline of Gloucester and Rockport presents a unique opportunity to meet 26 professional artists, see their work in the setting in which it was created, and enjoy demonstrations in various media. The work represented includes: pottery, painting, sculpture, photography, mosaics, weaving, and jewelry. In 2015, David Archibald, Marty Morgan, and Mi Robertson return to the tour. Marcie Rae, a jeweler working in enamel, joins the tour for the first time.
Over the last few months, the Artisans have posted updates on their work in the “From the Studio” blog. Among the posts, you can find news from: Jacqueline Ganim-DeFalco, Pamela Stratton, Judith Wright, Elizabeth Harty, Mike Foley, Bart Stuyf, and Marty Morgan and a special featured article in North Shore Magazine on Cynthia Curtis. To keep up to date with other details of the tour, please send an email to info@capeannartisans.com and we will add you to the mailing list.
To introduce some additional fun on the tour, the Artisans are adding a new twist to learn more about their work. Tour-goers will be able to pick up the first ever Cape Ann Artisans Open Studios Acrostic Puzzle, fill it out along the way (or beforehand by reading the brochure) with information learned about the Artisans and drop it off to be entered into a raffle for a gift certificate.
Not in town for the tour? You can visit many studios year round by appointment. Check out CapeAnnArtisans.com for more insights from each Artisan, individual studio contact information, and email sign up for the tour and special events.
