What is the “vibe” of your venue? Typical customer?
The Emerson Inn by the Sea is the last of the wooden seaside Inns that made Cape Ann the vacation place it is today – bringing people from a driving distance away to seak the cool breezes of the ocean, and the stimulation of the art and culture of the community. Our Inn brings back memories of the Roaring Twenties, where straight lines, and crisp clean colors meet warm smiles and European hospitality. The Inn was bulit by a French architect with the vision to host those traveling by Steamship to spend time with their relatives who settled here from Europe. Today, our guests are art lovers and culture seekers who visit Cape Ann to discover our rocky coast and magical light.

What is your favorite event/special night that everyone should know about?
Our Moonrise of course ! A night that is filled with local musicians, locally inspired ingredients for an opportunity for a culinary experience, and a moment of pause with friends and neighbors to watch the magic of the Moon rising over the ocean.

How do you see the arts community as part of your vision and/or how do you support the arts?
The Emerson Inn has been the subject of many paintings, and has for years hosted local artists and artisans as guests, as educators, and as artists looking for a peaceful place to paint. Under my ownership, each year we enhance our promotion of local artists, sponsoring awards and artists in residences through Rockport Art Association and Cape Ann Plein Air, and promoting Cape Ann Artisans, including offering commission free sales in our gift shop, reduced event fees for art receptions and always featuring local art for sale on our walls. We believe in the creative community here, and we encourage performance art and support our neighbors whenever possible.
