Invitation to former members of the Cape Ann Artisans – Join us for the 40th Celebration Exhibition

Dear Former Members of the Cape Ann Artisans,

We are excited to announce the 40th Anniversary celebration of the Cape Ann Artisans in conjunction with the Gloucester 400™+ Anniversary Celebration. Our Exhibition, an historical retrospective, will take place September 28 – October 29, 2023, at the Rocky Neck Cultural Center. As a former member of the Cape Ann Artisans, we invite you to join us by participating in the Exhibition.

Our Exhibition will showcase past and present Cape Ann Artisans with images and/or artwork.  All participants have the opportunity to sell their work as well!  In addition, we’d like to be able to offer an “In Memoriam” section.

Ready to join us?  Here’s how:

Contact us by May 15th with your Expression of Interest and donation as per the guidelines below:

You can have a piece of work on display OR an image of work which may be easier if you are not currently creating art.

● Submission of one piece of work by artisan, $25 donation.  Per the RNAC contract, work exhibited in the gallery must be for sale, but for this exhibit they will allow the exception of work by deceased or older Artisans who no longer make new work, which we can display as “Not For Sale”.
● Submission of digital image of work by artisan, $10 donation per image.

Whether you are submitting a piece of work to be displayed or simply an image, we need to have it by by July 15th so we can organize the walls and other displays to show off the work in the best possible way.

All work sold will generate a commission to Rocky Neck Art Colony. If you are a member of Rocky Neck, the commission is 25% and, if not, it will be 40%. This is a great way to support an important art organization in our community.

FAQ

  1. If you submit multiple pieces, is it still $25 each (for example other shows, there is a discount for multiple pieces)?  A: Only one piece per artisan.
  2. Are you guaranteed a spot, or can a piece be rejected (a reason for submitting more than one)?  A: It is a guaranteed spot but the curators reserve the right to make necessary decisions if need be.  If a piece were not to be shown the artisan would get a full refund.
  3. What happens with the digital art?  A. Digital art is going to be put into a slideshow that will be shown on a continual loop through the exhibit.  If the curator wants to hang a digital piece then they will contact the artisan directly.

We hope to hear from you soon so we can start planning and promoting! Please email us to let us know if you would like to participate and, if so, then in what manner – an image of your work or the work itself!   If you know what the piece will be or just have an idea, please share it via email.  Submit your intentions via email to CAA 40th!  and mail your payment via check:

Make payable to Cape Ann Artisans and send to Sallie Strand, 27 Wonson Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.

When we have enough information about who will be participating in the Exhibition and how the Cultural Center space will best accommodate the participants, we’ll send you the specifics of the exhibition, delivery dates, and all related topics.

We hope you choose to join in the celebration of one of the most celebrated Open Studio Tours on Cape Ann and connect with past and present artisans once again.
