Rockport: September 2023

Both the paintbrush and the pen have been busy as the summer comes to a close. Watercolor painting continues to be something of an obsession with me. I think of it when I wake up and I paint every day. Pen and Ink home portraits, long a staple of my business, have also been taking up a great deal of time.

I welcome commissioned work of most any subject matter. I most often paint or draw home portraits. But I also paint cars, boats and favorite landscapes.

Having been trained as an Illustrator I am always mindful of what subject matter will sell. Being a Rockport artist I therefore have the challenge of finding new ways to paint the iconic Motif #1. When visitors come to Rockport, this is what sells. It’s that simple. I have also found that images of The Ice Cream Store are popular. The tiny, freestanding iconic building evokes a warm happy feeling just like easting a delicious ice cream cone! Being a representational painter I am perfectly happy to portray these colorful landmarks-always in a bright and happy light.

Occasionally I enjoy experimenting with painting waves-a real challenge in watercolor. I’ve completed several ranging from super-realistic to somewhat (for me) abstract.

At this year’s fall tour I will have a complete selection of locally-themed Christmas cards, including a new one for 2023 of Rockport and of Gloucester. As always I have giclée prints, greeting cards, postcards and plenty of original work both framed and unframed. And of course my famous home-made cookies. I look forward to seeing you!
