I’ve been wanting to try some three-dimensional work and this year I’ve started! Not only am I working on a series in my studio, but I’m also working on a collaborative project for Cape Ann Blossoms with a few other artists from Cape Ann Artisans.
As an extension of my encaustic pod series on panel boards, I’m in the process of creating dimensional pods. I’m trying a new to me product called Creative Paperclay. Using a form I created as a mold I place a rolled sheet of Paperclay over the mold and allow it to dry for a few hours. I then remove the Paperclay and as it continues to dry the end form varies from one pod to another. Once dry I apply plaster, paint and will now begin the encaustic application. I’m currently working on five pods 3 inches wide by 17 inches tall.
I’ve really enjoyed exploring this medium and will continue to play and see where it takes me!
May 5-7 is Cape Ann Blossoms at the Cape Ann Museum. This year Cape Ann Artisans were invited to participate. Here’s just a sneak peek at the piece on which I’m collaborating with Cape Ann Artisans alumni Terry Del Percio-Piemonte:
To this point my painting and most of my fiber work has been limited to two dimensions. It’s been a challenge to work three dimensionally on both these projects. And I’ve only just started exploring the possibilities!
The Cape Ann Spring Studio Tour is June 3 & 4. I look forward to catching up with people who’ve visited before and to meeting new visitors!
