From the Studio Fall 2018: Cynthia Curtis

As we enter October, I think about the dark weather of Fall/Winter. Our studio is filled with natural light and warmth from the kilns creating a very cozy environment for making pottery. In the gallery, we keep it warm with an antique wood stove that my uncle gave me. He was an architect and said the unique design of the stove represents every form of architecture (a must see!). We as potters are constantly representing all forms pottery in our own way which makes it so personal.

The Queen Ann’s Lace was abundant this summer and I love pressing the flower into the soft clay creating floral arrangements. The flowers leave a lovely pattern that look like fireworks. Come see the large selection of new platters and trays.

I’ve also been having fun making more of my Sea Fossil pieces. I impress my collection of beach treasures into the clay in a mandala-like pattern. Looking up close one can se the fine detail. Step back and they look like a map of the world.

The studio is very busy as students prepare for our biennial Student and Studio Pottery Holiday Show and Sale. This very popular event will take place November 10 – 11, 10:00-5:00. Our wine and cheese reception is Saturday, November 10, 5:00-7:00. Hope to see you!

We are really excited about this weekend. The Cape Ann Artisans Studio Tour is such a great event! The studio will be busy with students making pots and answering visitor’s questions about the process. Warm spiced cider and homemade chocolate chip cookies will be served. Come take a look and maybe sign up for a class. Looking forward to seeing many new and familiar visitors!
