From the Studio: Pam Stratton – Summer

A lot has happened these past two months. The panel is up in the tree!

I completed three new sculptures combining the glass threads that I hand pull with new sculpture techniques. These sculptures are made from a combination of reed & paper, carved polystyrene foam, Thai paper and mixed media techniques.

The first is called “Empty Nest”. The population numbers for our common blue jay are down by 36%. This number really surprised and saddened me.

The second, called “Weavers”, is inspired from my African trip and the weaver bird nests. I am having fun with these new processes.

There are a lot of threads left to make new mosaic jewelry.

In June I hosted visiting artist Dagmar Friedrich from Spilimbergo, Italy for a 4-day class learning about color theory and a new Spilimbergo style method of placing tesserae. Everyone had a great time!

Classes are offered in my studio year-round. Check my website for the schedule.
