From the Studio, Spring 2019: Deb Schradieck

This is my first year with the Cape Ann Artisans and I’m thrilled to be part of this diverse and talented group! With our Spring Tour just around the corner I’m busy organizing new work, getting the studio shaped up and preparing for my first weekend of receiving visitors.

The art studio underwent a big renovation this year. I turned an unused room on the first floor of our home into a gallery/studio space. In winter I work upstairs in our main living area but in the summer I can spread out into this cool, bright space. The room has been painted; a track lighting system professionally installed along with an art hanging system. The hardwood floors create a warm contrast to the white walls. There is only one small step to access this space and plenty of on-street parking.

I’m a summer person. I love the sun, the ocean, the salty fresh air,  the vibrant colors and the beautiful light. I get through winters by painting the summer scenes I love so much. This year I got on a little tangent of painting front doors. Here in Rockport we have so many beautiful old homes. I’ve found the play of light and shadow on the doors and the flowers and plants around them to be most intriguing. I also completed two streetscapes of the downtown Rockport area. After many years of painting Gloucester I’m now finding all kinds of new subject matter in Rockport. Being a walker and a boater, I see endless subject matter and compositions from land and sea. I take a lot of photos and reference them later in the studio.

In addition to a sizable collection of original framed watercolor and oil work for sale, I will also have giclee prints, greeting cards, mini-prints and unframed bin work. Framing is available at a reasonable price. I’ll have work in progress and will be happy to share my technique and my inspiration with visitors. Stop by! I’m located in the beautiful south end of Rockport.
