From the Studio, Spring 2019: Pam Stratton

It has been a busy off season. I was thinking, “What have I been doing?” A better question is, “What haven’t I been doing!”  Lots of new work in the studio. I enjoyed sponsoring and participating in a visiting artist class in my studio where I learned to make 3D mosaics starting with polystyrene foam. I loved it!  Mosaic geodes are in my future.

I have also started making mosaic jewelry. This was inspired by saving interesting shards from my mosaic work. Here are a few examples of what can happen.

Another exciting happening is that I will be traveling to Nashville Tennessee in April to attend the American Mosaic Societies annual conference . I am honored that my work “Concentric” was juried into Mosaic Arts International by a distinguished panel including Kim Emerson, award winning public artist and founder of the San Diego Mosaic School, San Diego; Toyoharu Kii, internationally recognized mosaic artist and educator, Tokyo, Japan; and Joseph S. Mella, Director of Vanderbilt University Fine Art Gallery in Nashville.

The exhibition featuring the works of 39 artists from the United States, Canada, Australia, Brazil and Greece is being held at the Parthenon Museum in Nashville. I am looking forward to a road trip through the Blue Ridge parkway in Springtime.

And finally the tree carving is done!  Patrick finished just before winter set in. As soon as the weather warms enough I will get started on inlaying some mosaic.  I guess It will be a busy Spring
