From the Studio: Cynthia Curtis

Mugs, mugs, and more mugs!

It’s been a very busy several months getting ready for our June 3-4 Studio Tour.  I’ve made many new items for the season.  One of the top sellers these last couple of years is MUGS.  I’ve sold hundreds!  Maybe because people are staying home more or just appreciate a hand-made mug to drink their favorite beverage out of.

When people come to the gallery looking for mugs, I always say, “A mug is very personal.  You must try it on to see if it fits.” Everyone’s hands are different and it’s important the handle feels comfortable.

A lot goes in to making a mug. First, I make the body of the mug and days later, trim a foot ring on the bottom, make and add a handle, thumb rest, and signature. Often, I will put a shell or starfish inside or outside the mug.

The gallery here is open daily year-round by chance or appointment.  The next eight-week session of pottery classes begins June 28.

Hope to see you!
