From the Studio, Fall 2020: Jillian Demeri

I’d waited some time before adding anything to a beautifully bound and paged journal. My dear friend and talented artist, Elisif, gave this gift to me from her most recent trip to London, as well as a tube of watercolor named ‘Sand’. Each year she and three other good friends from college make time to reunite.

Late July, Elisif, her husband Tim, and their younger son Henry, invited us to their summer home in Chilmark. Very few people were admitted to their neighboring beach this summer, named Lucy Vincent. We packed our towels, paints and lunch and arrived first thing the weekend long to secure a spot at such an incredibly beautiful place.

I made these watercolor sketches while there; the red clay of the cliffs and the stones’ erosion making for a dramatic landscape; the ocean’s waves and sunshine making for a breathtaking and light hearted time while there.
